What's the difference between a blanket and a throw?

A blanket is denser and more compact in structure. Blankets are woven in two layers so that the warp threads are not visible, but are hidden by the weft. Blankets can be woven using a technique called jacquard, which allows for multi-coloured patterns. The result is a reversible effect when the blanket is turned.

A wool throw is lighter and not as tightly woven as a blanket. A throw has visible warp threads and often has fringes. The throw originated in Scotland, where it was traditionally worn as a large shawl.
